Whitney Port Engaged

‘The Hills” & “The City” reality TV star Whitney Port is now engaged to her TV producer boyfriend Tim Rosenman.

Tim is said to have proposed in Australia with a rose gold engagement ring. And you know we love the delicate romance of rose gold!

There are no great pictures yet, but that is a high profile center stone! It suits Whitney’s hand very well, we think.

Our warmest congratulations go out to the cute couple, who met on the set of Whitney’s reality show.

Mad Men Star Jared Harris Married

“Mad Men” star Jared Harris, aka, the dear departed Lane Pryce, married his fiancee, actress Allegra Riggio, aboard the Lady Windridge yacht in Miami on Saturday.

The rainy afternoon wedding took place on the yacht’s deck, and the bride wore angel wings (!) and carried a bouquet of calla lilies.

Afterward, they partied at Miami’s Eden Roc.

Engaged since June, Jared proposed with a custom ring in rose gold.

They met at Bar Lubitsch in Los Angeles.

We just love how happy this couple looks together. Congratulations to you both!

Ask Jeff Cooper: Pavé Diamonds

What’s trendy in wedding ring fashion right now? We blogged our predictions for the year here, but our friends over at The Knot posted an article where they picked 4 top trends in wedding rings, and they’re all trends we design for! Can you guess what they are?

Trend #1 is Pavé Diamonds! The Knot had this to say:

In the elegant pavé setting, tiny, faceted, fully cut stones are set as close together as possible so you can’t see the metal around them (see picture above). Think of it as if the metal band has been paved with diamonds. The pavé look offers bling without being outlandish. We’re seeing pavé in metals from yellow gold to platinum.

And here are a few favorites from our dazzling, but refined Tandem Collection.

Do you love it, or do you love it? We think pavé diamonds are so chic and glamorous.

So, what do you think the other three ring trends will be? Stay tuned!

Kanye & Kim engaged

Kanye & Kim got engaged, this weekend, in a stadium he rented for the purpose. It was more romantic than it sounds, we think. There was a 50 piece orchestra and everything!

So congratulations, to Kimye. We wrote about their incredible push present here. With their flair for dramam and luxury, we bet the wedding will be epic.

And today, everyone’s talking about the ring, of course, including us!

Our own David Cooper spoke to Forbes.com about the smaller but better quality diamond, saying that the most important element in selecting a diamond is the emotional significance.

“To me, what’s most importance when viewing any stone is what the stone says to you,” David told Forbes. “A diamond like a person is unique and it should have a presence, personality and beauty all its own—regardless of color and clarity.”

We love that sentiment! Like a marriage, your rings are really about what you find in them: love, partnership and eternity. We hope Kanye and Kim find all that and more!

Lauren Conrad Engaged

This weekend, Lauren Conrad became engaged to her law student beau, William Tell. They’ve been together for almost 2 years, and he popped the question with a classic solitaire engagement ring. Well done, Mr. Tell.

Lauren wrote, “I am very excited to share with you guys that William and I got engaged over the weekend. I am beyond thrilled! Get ready for lots more wedding content here on LaurenConrad.com as we begin the planning process.” We can’t wait!

Congratulations to both of you!

ask jeff cooper: buy me a ring

The question we hear most often from our clients is, “How do I pick a ring?”

The next most frequently asked question is, “How to do I get him to pick a ring I love?”

There’s some sound advice with a sense of humor over at East Side Bride, but we thought we’d offer some sensible advice from our experience.

If you want your love to propose, just nurture your relationship. Be thoughtful, be affectionate, be a great listener, but also have a life of your own so there’s some intrigue and mystery there.

Most people can’t gracefully come out and say “here’s what ring to get me.” But there are some ways to subtly influence your partner’s choice. If someone is thinking of proposing, they will take notice when your taste in rings comes up.

1. Tell your mom, sisters and all your girlfriends what you like. “I really love princess solitaires. No yellow gold. I love anything by Jeff Cooper.” Keep it simple and they’re sure to remember when he comes to them for advice.

2. Compliment rings you love in his presence, and be specific. “Your solitaire engagement ring is fabulous! What brand is it?”

3. Use language that helps your partner describe your personal style. You could say, “I love old fashioned jewelry. Or, “My style is really sleek and simple.”

4. And finally, if you don’t mind being a little more obvious, Like’ and ‘Share’ rings you love on Facebook, and repin them on Pinterest.

If you get a ring that’s not what you have in mind, you have two choices. Make the best of it, or ask to exchange it. As with any gift, graciousness is key. Be positive and grateful. We’ve known many brides who’ve said something like, “This ring is so beautiful I want to cry. You are the best fiance a girl could ever want. It is a little fancy for me though, how would you feel about us picking our something simpler?”

Your partner proposed to make you happy, so compromising on a ring is only as big a deal as you make it.

ask jeff cooper: the halo engagement ring trend

We predicted that halo rings would be big this year, and how right we were!

When we wrote about the adorable and lovely Alexis Bledel’s engagement to Vincent Kartheiser here, she wasn’t yet wearing a ring.

Now she’s stepped out in a vintage-inspired octogonal halo style, similar to our Tate Octet Ring.

Halo rings got some attention on TV when Catherine Giudici accepted ‘Bachelor’ Sean Lowe’s proposal with a square halo ring similar to Tallulah. ‘Bachelorette’ Emily Maynard wears a halo engagement ring, too.

The singer Brandy, Jessica Biel, Jennifer Aniston, Olivia Wilde and Kate Middleton are but a few of the stunning celebrity brides who light up the room in halo rings.

Name a few more? Natalie Portman, Jennifer Hudson, Giuliana Rancic, Kelly Clarkson, Gwyneth Paltrow… it’s easier to name who’s not wearing a sparkly halo!

What say you? Are you on board with the halo trend?

Allison Hannigan & The Anniversary Ring

There’s more than one occasion to buy (or receive) a fabulous engagement ring!

Push presents are really popular, as are mother’s presents. But an anniversary ring says he would marry you all over again, and who doesn’t want to hear that?

Alyson Hannigan got a giant round solitaire engagement ring from her hubby Alexis Denisof to celebrate ten years together.

The actress tweeted, “My hubby @AlexisDenisof surprised me with the most romantic day of my life yesterday! Which included another proposal & ring! I said YES!”

The happy couple was originally married on October 11, 2003 in Palm Springs. They are set to renew their vows later this year with their kids along.

Engagement Ring Trend: Mixed Metal Wedding Rings

White gold and platinum settings will always be popular, but we’re seeing adventurous brides (and grooms) gravitating toward mixed metals for a cool, personalized look.

It’s not just edgy fashionistas and bohemians! In the tradition of classic beauty Audrey Hepburn and her stack of mix and match wedding bands, modern brides are mixing metals, and it looks totally chic.

Keira Knightley surprised everyone with her wedding outfit, then surprised us again, by combining an understated two-carat solitaire diamond in a platinum setting with a simple yellow gold wedding band.

Kate Middleton also dared to mix metals. As the world knows, Prince William proposed with Princess Diana’s blue sapphire ring set on a platinum band. Her wedding ring is a simple yellow gold band fashioned from a nugget of Welsh gold, a royal tradition.

Some brides feel that mixed metal wedding sets free up more options for mixing metals in all your jewelry and accessories, but most brides stick with (and love) a matched set.

This year we designed some of our wedding sets with rose gold accents for a mixed metal look within a perfectly matched set. The featured image above is the Larissa Rose Set, from our Laurel Collection.

What say you? Love it or leave it?

Kirsten Kuehn & Sparkle Brighter

“You mustn’t be afraid to sparkle a little brighter, darling.” ― Kirsten Kuehn

Can one Pinterest board change your style from streamlined to sumptuous? Maybe not, but your wedding is no time to play the wallflower, and neither is your life!

Here at Jeff Cooper, we believe that a magical work of art set with a fabulous diamond (or a lot of them) is the perfect accessory for every woman, every day.

And when we discovered the above quote by Pinterest diva and accessories designer Kirsten Kuehn, we got very inspired.

“Sparkle brighter” doesn’t have to mean Dynasty-era excess. But we are finding a lot to love in the glittery end of the style spectrum.

So without further ado, here’s the outrageously sparkly Pinterest board we’re loving by Ms. Kuehn. So much eye candy, nothing held back.

So, what do you say? Are you in the mood to sparkle brighter? We love sparkly reception dresses, too.
